What are the requirements of ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 requires documented evidence that the Environmental Management System (EMS) meets the required standard to ensure that the robust processes set out are in place. These requirements were designed to be applicable to organisations of every size, type, location, or level of maturity.
The requirements of ISO 14001:2015 are broadly separated into 10 sections or ‘clauses’. Clauses 1-3 don’t contain any requirements but describe the scope of the standard, normative references and terms and definitions used in the standard so that it can be better understood.
Clauses 4-10 contain requirements for an EMS and include;
- 4 – Context of the organization
- 5 – Leadership
- 6 – Planning
- 7 – Support
- 8 – Operation
- 9 – Performance evaluation
- 10 – Improvement
