The management of Health and Safety is quickly becoming a growing priority in the UK, you only have to view the recent figures from the Health and Safety Executive to see that there were 144 fatalities in the period 2017/18, which is an increase on the previous year.
What can you do about it?
From the point of view of your own business, quite apart from the human cost involved, such incidents create bad publicity and subsequent loss of reputation, so it makes sound business sense to establish a safety management system.
This certificate is intended to help businesses control occupational Health and Safety risks, and it will be replaced by ISO 45001 in 2021 when OHSAS 18001 will no longer be in place.
A safety management system such as ISO 45001 accreditation is the end goal for any business that cares about health and safety in the workplace.
The first global standard for health and safety management ISO 45001 was finally published on the 12th March 2018 and is a cause for celebration for health and safety professionals across the UK.
The ISO 45001 has been designed to integrate with other ISO management systems standards, ensuring a high level of compatibility with the new versions of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Although published; UKAS certification is not yet available in this standard with certification bodies required to achieve UKAS certification to certify this by the 12th March 2020.

We will work with you to design, document, implement and operate a simple Health and Safety management system based on OHSAS 18001 certification that meets all the requirements.
We will design the system around your existing Health and Safety practices wherever possible, including the completion of risk assessments as necessary, but the main emphasis will be placed on compliance with OHSAS 18001.
We will help you to establish the necessary controls to ensure you are in compliance with relevant legislation. We will also help you to identify the areas of your business which do not comply to the 18001 standard and redesign them with minimal disruption to your operation.
After the system has been implemented, we will recommend you for the initial audit visit from an external assessment body. We will then arrange for your system to be fully audited by one of our own auditors.
The final OHSAS 18001 external assessment will take place within 3 months of the initial audit visit (depending upon the external assessment body). Find out more about OHSAS 18001 certification
